Michael Katselos is Australia’s best kept secret, but not for long! Katselos has been a student of the guitar for over 20 years and now he is ready to make the world stand up and take notice. Whether is be silky smooth blues orientated tones, contemporary acoustic or down right intense shredding Katselos shines in all departments. He is as versatile as he is methodical.
In teens he entered the National Rebel Yell Bourbon Guitar Challenge. After winning City, Region and State heats he twice made the Australian final, which was aired live on MTV on both occasions he finished high in the placings, not bad for someone still in their teens. From their Katselos joined the Australian Bon Jovi show ‘Keep the Faith’ which toured nationally on a regular basis.
Wanting to further push his talent and satisfy his need to let loose he formed the band Time Machine. Time Machine was a Guitar Tribute band which centred on the greats like Satriani, Vai and co along with their own compositions. This led to the same line up recording an album of blistering Metal Fusion under the moniker of Hydrus! The Hydrus release really got heads turning as the trio left punters stunned with their live musical pyrotechnics.
Michael then joined the Sydney Hard Rock outfit Mind Candy, recorded the album ‘Temptation Lust’ and extensively toured the East Coast of Australia.
After playing in Mind Candy for several years he got the hunger to work on his real passion! From this the Solo EP of instrumental tracks ‘The MJK Project’ was born. Katselos melded Metal, Fusion, Rock, Jazz and of course highly technical shredding. The EP was shopped to several labels with a positive response.
Michael then formed the original band Lazy Jane which was active on the live scene and also recorded an album. Still trying to find the right vehicle for his talent led to Katselos forming another original alternative pop rock band Reflector, which he is still a member of. Reflector have built a strong following on the Sydney scene and have caused a huge stir amongst critics and industry. Reflector have played several showcases and are a regular on the original live scene and have released 3 recordings to date with a new album of sweet melodies due to hit early 2011.
In 2005 Michael met the band Fozzy fronted by WWE Wrestling Superstar Chris Jericho and Stuck Mojo mastermind Rich ‘The Duke’ Ward as a co-promoter for Fozzy’s Australian tour. The friendship remained strong and in January 2010 Michael jammed with the band in Atlanta. He left such an impression on the band with his playing that they invited him over for a live stint with the band which he handled with critical acclaim. This also led to an endorsement deal with amplification big guns Krank Amps who instantly realised the talent Michael possessed. He has the dignity of being Krank’s first endorsed Australian guitarist.
Fired up by his appearances with Fozzy, Michael hit the studio to unleash his pent creativity to once again fire up the fret board – his style! The resulting (to be named) EP is being scheduled for a last 2010 release and once again this multitalented guitarist will no doubt stun and slay those who cross his path. Michael Katselos is a musician you will be hearing a lot more about! It’s his turn to shine…………
