Hailing from the small town of Whitehall, Michigan, Tony Greve settled for nothing less then the best. At the age of 8 years old his mother gave him the choice between sports and music, and I think it’s safe to say that he didn’t go with sports. Not a single day has gone by from the first time he picked up the guitar where it wasn’t played. Music was something that was always a part of him. Getting into rock bands Guns ‘n’ Roses and Aerosmith at the time, the guitar seemed to be a soothing fit.
“Growing up there were three guitar players that truly influenced me. They really shaped my sound and the way that I play. There was Slash, Dimebag, and my guitar instructor Shane Mouw. Shane was such a great mentor because when I was just 14 he would get me into the bars and clubs and let me get up on stage and play cover songs with his band.” Shane is currently out teching for Tony and Pop Evil where they continue to get to enjoy the beauty of the stage and rock ‘n’ roll together night after night.
It was 2007 that Tony joined Pop Evil, who was already a well established band in West Michigan. “When I joined the band I was originally supposed to be a hired gun. I was just going to come in and play the bigger shows with the band. Since Dave was the only guitar player in the band and recorded 2 guitar parts in the studio, they needed that extra guitar sound live. After I went in for my first rehearsal with the band Dave looks at me and asked me if wanted a job, and that was that.” Since that day Tony has brought his years of guitar playing experience to the table. From the studio to the stage, his love for music is undeniable.
“I’m definitely a combination of a theory, ear, and feel player. It’s all about what mood I’m in at the moment and what I’m trying to play. It’s more than just a guitar, it’s the love of my life.”
Tony is a very intense performer and for guitar players he’s an absolute must see! Make sure you catch him live with Pop Evil as he rips up his Dean guitars through his Krankenstein Krank amp.
