Scream for me! The Krankshaft overdrive pedal was designed for those guitarists who like to add that extra gain and compression ‚”bounce” to their amps or simply want a classic overdriven tone for their clean channel. Featuring a heavy-duty chassis and true bypass circuitry, the Krankshaft can help you achieve screaming leads or smooth country rock-blues tones.
- Overdrive unit with output, gain, and tone controls

Would a Boss style 9v adapter work for one of these?
Absolutely and the Boss adapter is actually the one we recommend!!!
I own both the Krankenstein and the Krank shaft and wanted to know your recomendation on a setting on both the amp and the pedal for a pushed high gain setting for tight rythem playing. I use to run the pedal at half to full gain for solos but to much noise and a noise supressor dosen’t help much so I decided to use it just for pushing the amp but not sure the best way to set the amp up. Thanks by the way for making great, reliable products.
Hey Jeremy because you say you’re experiencing noise even with a suppressor on leads to me think maybe you have the amp setup wrong and the Krankshaft is simply pushing it over the top…are you setting the main master overall volume above the master 1 and 2? I ask as it’s the way the amp was meant to run most efficiently and the other way can produce more noise…then you add a Krankshaft in front of it and even more noise! By nature just about any tube screamer type pedal will create an additional hiss and noise to your sound and most players just kick them on for solos (which you were initially doing) or like what you’re doing now and have them on all the time with a good noise suppressor running (and usually does the trick for squelching any unwanted noise). A Boss NS2 is ok for that, an ISP Decimator is even better, not sure if you’re running either of those. Also if you have any other effects on while running that amp/Krankshaft combo can definitely produce even more noise. So I’m thinking it could be something as simple as having the amp setup wrong like I said. And also your gain levels on the amp and pedal will affect it just as well so try backing them down just a bit if you’re going to keep the Krankshaft on at all times and find a happy medium. Another trick here to try is to actually turn on the active effects loop for more gain, even tho you may not be running effects in it. By doing that you can give the amp clean gain up to about 6 on the dial in the back of the amp (past 6 and the circuit becomes a bit unstable because there’s no effects in the loop – note the instability I just mentioned isn’t harmful to the amp, just noisy). Then you can dial back down the gain on the Krankshaft a bit in combination…give it a whirl and see what happens.
One other thing I would mention is if you really just liked it on your solos and are fine with the rhythm sound without it maybe you should also think about maybe getting some type of a loop switcher. With that you can setup a true bypass loop with just the Krankshaft and whatever effects you want for leads, even putting a light suppressor in that loop as well to back down the noise a little. A lot of guys do it and are happy switching that way so they can get the most pure tone…
Hope all this helps a bit-
Is there any sound sample out there for this pedal?
thanks
Actually there is one I just got up on a clean Rev setting! The Krankshaft is great for that dirty clean sound as well as boosting up a little gain on distorted guitars!
I don’t have the Krankshaft yet, but i was wondering..with the Distortus Maximus and this hooked to it, does one or the other have any use? Or do they go well with eachother? Like extra gain etc on top of the Dist. Max. ?
That’s a good q and one possibility I’ve never explored with those pedals!!! But in theory yes you could certainly use the Distortus Max as your preamp section (which it inherently very much acts like anyway) and then kick on a Krankshaft for solos, etc!
Could yall put more samples up? Maybe w the Rev running Krank channel with and without ,and clean channel as well With and without the Krankshaft?
The only comparisons on youtube are of some dingaling with a bad recording.
I currently use a tube screamer in front of my Krankenstein to push the front-end a little harder and it sounds awesome! What are the main differences between a KrankShaft and a Ibanez Ts-9 tube screamer?
The Krankshaft is true bypass and won’t alter the tone as much as the TS9!
I agree with Jim. A nice off/on comparison of the Krankshaft would be very useful on both channels of all 3 of Krank’s main amps.
But more importantly, when’s Krank gonna release a full line of pedals [IE, NS, Delay, Reverb, chorus, etc]? I’m definitely interested, especially if I end up going with Krank for my amp/cab; it’d be keeping it in the family instead of going with Dunlop/MXR and DigiTech! ;D
YO Krank!
Im the rhythm guitarist/singer in my band, and I’m running an ESP Eclipse thru a Krankenstein + head n cab (awesome) … my rhythm tone is really chunkin n heavy, but for the few lead parts I do, I would love to get a propa scooped, overdriven tone to make em stand out more! Is it possible to get that sorta tone from the Krankshaft?
Cheerz!
Cont. from my last post… for my leads I want scooped, overdriven, HOLLOW-soundin tone (forgot the key word there)!
I understand what you’re wanting but scooping out your lead tone will actually cause it NOT to stick out. There’s a popular myth that Dime’s lead tone was scooped but it wasn’t at all in reality, there was plenty of mid to lay it in the mix of the band well, especially when playing heavy downtuned guitars… At any rate the Krankshaft will help with leads for sure…
Glad you dig the Krankenstein+ half stack bro! Yes the Krankshaft would certainly help but you really don’t want lead parts scooped, you want a lot of midrange! That’s how they’ll stick out and the Krankshaft adds a little extra gain and mid push to really get the leads happening, would deff help!
Bought it, I’ts never leaving my pedalboard.
Will the 1 Spot power adapter work with thus pedal?
It probably should work tho we recommend your standard Boss 9V adaptor…
I’ve had one for about a year and this thing kicks ass. I’ve got this running into my Rev+ and it’s a match made in heaven. Gives it even more balls.
