At the age of 8, I inherited a bass from my uncle, who died tragically in a motorcycle accident in San Leandro, CA.....
ok so ive got a few questions. first my stein looks like a first series k-stein,(airplane switches, dosent say +) but it has 6550 tubes and says use 6550 why is this? next my head was damaged in shipping no cosmetic it just knocked all the power tubes out of the sockets, which all the keyways are broken off the tubes, i wonder if they are still in the tube sockets. so i have to replace the tubes im just gonna order the ones from the site so i wont have to re-bais. should i replace the pre-amps if so i read that preamps dont have to be biased, so i can use 12ax7 is this true. if so are there any preamps i should consider other than the ruby tubes that are stock, any recomendations. i see there are 4 used, but 3 is all have and a (none correct term) silver thing what is this? lol. last question is there a place where i can send pictures to maybe get an estimate on what repair cost could be incase more than the tubes are broken. thank you for makin some of the badest amps to rock the planet, i drove ten hours once just to play one when they first came out, ive waited almost a decade to own one, i finally was able to afford one and it showed up broken fed ex is not lookin like there gonna pay for it so its prolly on me. hopefully i wont have to wait to much longer to have it as the drivin force behind my band and meltin my face. the rev cab is amazing and sounds great with my marshall jcm 2550 jubilee way better than a marshall way tighter and clearer. if i match a stein cab with my rev cab will it sound good. sorry thats it thanks again.

Dear Krank,
Im 2 years into my Krankenstein (toggle /100watt) and Rev cab. After owning a Dual recto & 6505+, for once, Im really happy and excited to play each practice and show! I ditched my isp noise decimator because feedback and noise just dont seem to exist. We just finished reamping our new album and the tones could not be match by anything else. Truly KRUSHING! Our bass player had no choice but to upgrade to an 8×10 just to get control off some low end growl again Ha! As the second owner of this amp I questioned whether or not I should have just got the 120watt + model but when I rock it next to my bandmate’s 6505/1960a celestion filled cab and I couldnt find enough reasons to need a MORE aggresive tone. OK Im lying. Im always ready for the next level! I recently swapped out tubes, JJ’s in the power and tung sol in the pre and it sounded focused and snappier then ever. Im using a Rev cab and I was shocked then amazed at how tight the low end / mid rumble can get for a guitar cab. I couldnt imagine what texas heat or swampthings could do! I already have to tape may head down or it vibrates off the cab! Catero, Krank n even Tony, great products already and I cant wait to upgrade to the + models, stein cab or whatever kickass gainiac amps you come up with next! Thanks
We love to hear feedback that you LOVE your sound so right on! Always feel free to hit us up with any questions!
I have a problem with my Krankenstein Plus. It is experiencing a lot of buzzing and the Dime channel sounds really thin. Any suggestions on how to beef up the sound, as far as amp settings go?
I’d have to see how you’re setting it up but often times when I hear something like that about a Krankenstein it’s more often than not a set up issue with the overall master volume located to the far left of the amp next to the presence. That overall master is directly linked to the power section of the amp and you have to think of it as subtractive in nature instead of additive. Basically if that know is dialed all the way up it’s akin to being at “0″ with the amp’s power section at full volume. As you dial it back it’s actually decreasing the power and thus starving the amp a bit. The reason for this was something Dimebag wanted in that he liked to juice the preamp hard and starve the power for more gain. But if you get the overall volume too low it will get thin and buzzy. My suggestion is try setting the overall volume at about 7 to start, presence at 5, sweep at about 3-4, bass at 6, mid at 4, treble at 6, gain at 7 and then bring the master 1 and 2 up to whatever volume you desire to play at. See if that helps… And remember the guitar and cab you’re using are part of the equation too… Anyway hopefully that helps but if not then you may have a legitimate problem that you’d need to talk to the tech dept about.
Yeah, I’m using a Krankenstein cabinet, so it’s the matching cab. I have three guitars I’m using with it, an ESP JH-600 with EMG pickups, a BC Rich Stealth with a Dimarzio X2N, and an ESP Ninja 600 with Seymour Duncan pickups. Do you think the amp was designed more for passive pickups, since that’s what Dime Used? Thanks.
Honestly it was designed to use whatever pickups as active ones really can load the preamp nicely on that amp. But if you’re looking for a specific tone to replicate going all the way in how each piece of gear was used then I’m sure the Dean with passive pickups has something to do with it!
Hey….JUst a lil question. I got a previous model krankenstein dime 100….I live in Italy and cant absolutely find crank extension so i switched to Mesa 120 w… I love cos it delivers bass tones…prolly crank better but mesa featuring 2 x 12 v 30 celestion, so good and crunchy, and used by my beloved Dime…Please temme wat ye think….best regards ….Nicola Franxcesco
The Krank would sound better thru a Krank cab but the Mesa is a good second choice if it was available!
I’d be intrested in a Chrome grille. How much are they?
They run $75 and you can get them in the web store!
Hey, Got a question about the krankenstein 100w. First off, What I am trying to do is switch from the clean channel with a delay on in the effects loop on the amp, to the krank channel with an overdrive pedal on, and I am trying to switch to this with just one stomp. Are there any channels switching pedals out there that can do this?
Hey Jesse look into a Voodoo Labs Ground Control switching system, they’ll definitely do that as well as a TC Electronics G System. There are a few options out there, just gotta do a little research as to what’s best for you…
Hey Catero, Recently my krankenstein 100w started making a slight squealing/ ringing noise while palm muting. This happens at any volume and usually after playing through the amp for about 15mins. I have an ISP Decimator throgh the front of the amp and maxon od9, I also replaced both the power tubes and pre amp tubes. My settings are: master10, presence6, sweep6, bass6, mid5, treb7, master 1 and 2 at 3-4, gain7. Any ideas or suggestions on what could be wrong?
Hmmm…typically that sound means a preamp tube is funky. Do you still have the shield cap on the tube that’s the high gain part of the circuit? You can try switching preamp tube positions and take the tube under the cap and switch it with another of the preamp tune positions. If none of that works then I’d hit up Patrick in the tech dept at tech@krankamps.com…
