Where can I get metal grill cloths?
Simplyspeakers.com carrys them
Is this head stereo or mono?
The cab is mono but you can easily wire it for stereo if you know how-
Hi catero, I read that it’s a bad idea to wire a cab in stereo IF the plate holding the 2 jacks is made of metal. I want to split my Krankenstein 4×12″ into 2-2×12″ for the wet section of my rig
Here’s my set up in case you need it to confirm if I will or will not hurt/shorts my gear :
- Framus Cobra into custom LLC 4×12″
- Suhr ISO line out box into Framus Cobra speaker ouput / into small mixer input where my rack FXs are hook up
- Mixer outs into Lee Jackson SP-1000 (SS power amp) into Krankenstein 4×12″ modded for stereo using the 2 jacks already on the cab but re-wired as 2 mono inputs
Yeah there’s truth to that, use nylon jacks and you’ll be good to go! The jack basically has to be completely insulated from the jack plate…
Thanks for the fast answer Catero.
You got it :)
hi, i was wondering. How does dime have the green backing behind the speakers on his krankenstein cab? how would you be able to get this?
Basically the baffle was rolled with green paint especially for Dime. We’ve never offered that as a option but if you have a Krankenstein cab (or were thinking of getting one) you can easily go down to a hardware store and get the paint and do it yourself, I would just suggest taking the speakers out first to avoid accidentally painting on them or at least mask them well…
Ohh ok i see. Yeah i might do that. I already have the krankenstein cab ( which is awesome btw.)and ill prolly pull the speakers out and paint it. Another quick question. im planning on ordering another krankenstein cab for my house and seen yous can do different colors than the genric black. If i wanted different color tolex would i call up krank or order it through a local dealer? i was thinking maybe green or red. Thanks for the responses much appreciated.
Yep you can deff do colored tolex, it’s an upcharge tho as it’s done in the custom shop, about $250 extra on the cab…
ok. I have one more question. what is the sound difference between the krankenstein and the revolution cabs? reason im asking is i seen a red revolution on guitar centers online store. i love the krankenstein sound however i noticed alot of metal players seem to use the revolution too. From what i read the difference is the speakers. As for sound would it be better for metal or no? Sorry with for all the questions this is my last one. Theres no krank dealers around me so i cant plug into them myself.
No worries, happy to answer your q’s… The main sound difference between the two cabs is the sound of the speakers. The Rev cab has a very specific frequency notch due to the Eminence Legend V12s, the Krankenstein has Eminence Texas Heats which are more of a full range speaker with an open zurit dust cab (a mesh one that allows all frequencies thru). Both sound great for metal, the Rev is just a little more focused in it’s range and direct sounding where the Krankenstein has more bite on the top end and a boomier low end. To give you an idea Shadows Fall and Arch Enemy used the Rev cab while Fear Factory the Krankenstein…
Ohhh. Yeah i think amott from arch enemy had celestions in his. while christian from fear factory actually inspired me to get the krankenstein because my cousin bought his old gear because i think hes with randall now. They had the stock texas heats. anyways thanks for everything illbe ordering another krankenstein very soon. Just so i know. I can order it through this site right? I noticed it had a tolex and grill option in the checkout.
Amott went to Celestions at one point but used the Eminence to begin with and yeah Christian moved to Randall to do a signature head, but both those guys used the Kranks at their apex… Anyway yes you can order it from the website!
Yeah i like eminence. Anyways thanks for everything.
I was wondering if a Krankenstein cab and either a Rev or Rev SST would mix well? Thanks.
Sure they mix great! Really when it comes to what Krank head/cab combo is best it really is very subjective. I can tell you Zach Broderick from Nonpoint likes the Rev+ with a Krankenstein cab… The Rev SST also sounds great with it, the only thing you might want to do if you went that route is put an adjustable jack plate on the Krankenstein cab that would allow you to switch between 4 and 16 ohms as the SST really rocks at 4 ohms…and don’t let that deter you from getting an SST btw, it’s really easy to rewire your cab. Hope that helps!
Will the dirty valve have 4×12?
Actually the origin of the Basszilla cab comes from my idea of combining what used to be my live setup of an 8×10 and a Krank 4×12 loaded with Eminence PA speakers… So while I’m not sure that we’ll ever make a bass 4×12 a stock item it could most certainly be ordered as a custom item, just contact the sales department via sales@krankamps.com for a price quote!
hello, what is the type of solid wood used in the krankenstein cab? i noticed the rev cab has some sort of birch ply, but on these specifications it says solid wood?
thanks
Mickey
Actually both the Krankenstein and Rev cabs have a solid poplar wood shell while the Rev SST cab has a 13-ply baltic birch construction…
Witch one does Brendan Small of Dethklok use….the krank revolution or krankenstein?
And if i was to get the krankenstein cab with the Krank + head would i get a much more brutal lower heavier tone thats so powerful or is there no difference?
Brendon has used the Krankenstein mostly… The main difference in the cabs is the speakers as the Rev and Krankenstein cab are constructed the same. The Krankenstein has Eminence Texas Heat speakers that are a wattage rated a little higher at 150W each and they have a more open top end and boomer low end. Both cabs sound great with the Krankenstein+ tho so it comes down to a matter of preference!
4×12 ~ 600W speaker. Could Krankenstein+ handle it ? 120W power tube really play with 600W speaker ?
The Krankenstein cab is rated at 600W as each Texas Heat speaker in it is a 150W speaker…and yes the Krankenstein+ easily pushes that cab! In layman’s terms tube watts are far more powerful that solid state watts and the cab was designed to match the Krankenstein head…
HOLY SHIT! can u use 2 cabs to produce 1200W of POWER!!!???
Hey there i was wondering, if i were to purchase a Cab. This one is the one i am looking at. And I were to temporarily use my marshall head wich is a (Avt150h) 150 watt non Tube. Which can run at 4 Or 8 ohms, if it would damage the Cab. Or is there a way to run it untill i can afford the head as well
Oh no Chris you’d be able to run the cab with that head until you can afford the Krankenstein+. Solid state heads aren’t particular about what ohm cab they’re run into so you’re all good to go…
I just got a krankenstien cab it’s inputs say 16 ohm parallel but my amp only has a single 16 ohm out which one do I plug it into?
Plug into the 16 ohm on the amp and either jack on the cab and you’re good to go…
how much does this cab weigh?
it’s around 85 lbs unboxed…
Have you guys ever thought of putting in selector switches of some kind to enable/disable specific speakers in the unit? That way a 4×12 could be used live, but with the flick of a switch, converted to a 1×12 for studio recordings.
Not a bad thought but to do that right you’d almost want to chamber it which drives costs up…but an idea none the less!
Hmm, but if the other 3 speakers were disabled, would the 1 that’s on really need to be chambered?
However, I think I’m really leaving the scope of this page.. so I’ll stop asking questions, heheh
… I’d still like an answer to this question, though, heheh :)
Still there, catero?
Just getting back from NAMM!
Damnit, dude!!!
HEY KRANK GUYS,IS THE KRANKENSTIEN WITH THE GREEN WOOD WOOFER FRAME,BEHIND THE BLACK GRATEING STILL AVAILABLE? THE ONE DIME IS STANDING BY IN THE PHOTO,OR DID THAT LOVEABLE LUNITIC SRAYPAINT IT HIMSELF!THANX,BLACKY
That one was done specifically for Dime! BUT you can easily paint the baffle board that slime green color!
instead of using just a plain green, i use chrome green… want any chrome colors, go to myspace and look for my business: Chrome City. we do any color chrome too!
HEY KRANK GUYS,WHEN DO I GET MY DIME/KRANK CATALOG YOU HAVE OFFERED,I CALLED YOUR NUMBER BEFORE X-MAS? THANX BLACKY.I’M GOING TO BUY THE KRANKENSTIEN CAB AND TAKE YOUR ADVICE.SLIME GREEN IT IS!
Hey Blacky we’ll be posting up the new catalog on the website shortly! Not sure what kind of stock in the catalogs we’ll have after the NAMM show tho…download it man!
i use the internet at school, and dont have time to read the entire krank catalog, i dont have internet, so is there a way u can send the catalog to my house? i’ll send my info.
E-mail the “sales” option on the site with an address and we’ll see what we can do…
hey, how many decibels does this thing put out?
Not sure the total but A LOT!!!!!!! Very loud amps into well built cabs…
Will there ever be a 2×12 speaker cab made for this or the Rev heads?
We used to make a 2×12 but discontinued them a couple years ago. Truthfully getting two Jr. 1×12 cabs is a better option as you can do exactly what the 2×12 can simply by stacking them BUT with two 1×12′s you have the flexibility to angle them differently, place one behind you and one in front of you as a personal monitor, spread them wide on stage, etc. Deff more versatility from venue to venue!
I was wondering if u could play a Krank Rev jr. 20w through a krankenstein 4X12 if that head would have enough power to push through the cab?
Yeah actually you could use that as we have done that at the shop numerous times! Truthfully you’re better off with the 50W version OR you could rewire the cab to 4 ohms to get more juju out of the head…
Is it noticablely louder using the 4X12 with a 20w head then useing a krank jr. full stack with a 20w head?
As far as loudness goes it’s more of a perceived loudness in a 4×12 as it will move more sound volume-wise with 4 speakers but truly it’s close in the sense of overall decibels, the Jr. cabs are just more focused directionally…
hi there i have a krankenstein 4×12 cab i need tp replace the bottom left speaker but i don’t know what ohm the individial speaker is as i can purchase a 4 8 or 16 ohm speaker
thanks for your time
Would be a 16 ohm Texas heat!
cheers dude just ordered one
so I’m getting alot of crap from my friends saying that the krankenstien cab is overpriced and i should just build one and save the money is this even possible and how much money would i save (if any) and is there any thing i can tell these guys to get them to shut up about it all and prove them wrong. thanks -mike
Well tell your friends to shut up already hahaha! The truth is the Krankenstein and Rev cabs are constructed of solid poplar wood shells, which is a very old school and expensive construction method. You just don’t find sheets of solid wood available, if you tried to go to a lumber yard you would see how much it would cost to get them to make you a sheet of poplar! Then by the time you buy the Eminence speakers, all the tolex, the hardware, etc,…you’re in for a lot of money AND you still have to make the thing! If you’re friends ever got to play thru a Krank cab they would understand why it’s a little expensive…and truthfully it’s cheaper than a Bogner or Diezel and uses better wood!
out of all your JR. series heads wich one has the best clean tone
Truthfully they both sound good, you can’t go wrong with either…
Truthfully they both sound good, you can’t go wrong with either…
Have you ever thought about adding some of the things in your heads that people might get them modded for, like for instance a built in noise supressor or something to that effect?
Honestly we purposely keep our heads simple in nature. Anytime you add some kind of bell and whistle you’re coloring the circuit usually in one way or another…plus most players have favorite effects/gates/etc. that they prefer so we leave that up to the player to decide….
Hey Catero, Im building my own custom cab to Krank 4×12 specs. but im putting 2×15′s in it instead. I already own a Krankenstein cab and the solid wood puts out a ton of bass so I was gunna go with the 13 play baltic birch since 15′s have alot of bass by default. Can you give any advice on where you guys get the corners, jack plate, handles, and rubber feet?
I have a rack head set up with a crown power amp that puts out 600watts at 8 ohms (bridged mono). Would this work fine for this cab?
Yeah you shouldn’t have any problems!
Hey, I was wondering if these cabs would sound good with a Hughes & Kettner Switchblade head? (Full midi control is something I have to have…)
Yeah man any of our cabs will sound good with that head…the Nineteen80, SST or Rev cab would be good choices as well depending on what type of music you’re playing…any q’s regarding that feel free to ask away…
Are there any digital krank amps? I just bought Fender’s G-Dec3, its a pretty small practice amp but I am in love with it…. mainly due to the sound quality. Which is why I am wondering if there is any difference in digital or regular amps. I am not an expert at this kinda thing but I am wanting a half stack that has awesome sound quality.
Well what we offer in that realm would be the Rev SST but it’s not a full digital amp as it does have a tube preamp. One thing with the modeling amp like the Fender you mentioned is they do sound good at a lower level and offer some interesting tones but you’ll find that even with the best modeling amps once you go for the big sound a half stack they simply don’t compare to a real tube amp; I have yet to hear one that truly does. They still don’t sound as rich and full at louder volumes as when you push a tube amp like a Krank’s volume they really open up. So I’d deff go for an amp with tubes at the half stack level. We have some good option here depending on your budget and needs, feel free to ask some specific q’s on this matter…
Hi catero,iv one of your krank rev 1 heads, krankshaft overdrive awsome gear dude, and a krankenstein cab, now the cab as two inputs one for the head but is the other input for on the cab is it for slaving cabs or is there any other use ie,another head input,KRANK AMPS rule dude, all the best dude, from england,
Hey Mark cool man, have a good rig rolling there! The other jack on the back of the cab is purely to daisy chain another cab. IF you rewired the cab for stereo you could certainly use it as another head input…
Thanks for the reply catero, the cab was used at download for shadowsfall well impressed, should be buying a krankenstein head very soon and another krankenstein cab,i live just afew miles from andy sneap (producer, guitarist for sabbat,)who you endorse, andys a really good friend of one of my friends, this will be my live set up aswell,iv had allsorts of amps dude yours are the best m8,any hows speak soon, keep well,
I have a dean d-100 head and wanted to know what you think about the d-100 head paired with krank cab compared to the dime cab. I haven’t heard the dime head with a krank cab, is it possible? Just looking for opinion and some facts. Thanks.
George
Hey George the Krankenstein cab will be a far superior cab just by the nature of how it’s made (all our products are made in the US with top quality parts while the Dean Dime stuff is made in China with budget in mind, i.e. cheaper all the way around). As far as what that head will sound like with the Krankenstein cab I’ve never heard one with it so I honestly have no idea but I can pretty much guarantee it will sound better than the Dime cab!
Are the dimensions of the stein cab identical to the mesa recto oversized cabs?
No I believe ours is actually a bit bigger… 29 3/4″ x 31 13/16″ x 14″…
Hello, my krank says 16 ohms parallel just like this one. I have a 5150 with 4, 8, and a 16 ohm switch. can i plug in the 2 jacks from my 5150 into the 2 jacks of the krank using 2 cables (i think this would mean stereo?) and have the 5150 at 16ohms? I’m not too familiar with ohmage so please enlighten me. If i should just use one cable at 16 ohms let me know.
No deff DON’T plug in both jacks from the same head as you can cause damage! The cab has to be wired for stereo (which is can be btw) to do what you’re asking and the stock setting is not. So just use one cable and set the head to 16 ohms. If you get a second cab at 16 ohms then you can use both speaker outputs on the head and switch it to 8 ohms as by doubling the cabs you double the load the amp carries which makes it half the ohms. For more info on ohms google it and you’ll find a ton of info!
thank you so much for your help. probably would’ve blown something up.
Hahaha here to help!
Also, does it matter which input i plug that one cable into? That goes for the 5150 and the Krank cab. thnx!
Either jack on the cab will work!
I have a Rev Jr this speaker is awsome, love the sound. Have a problem the speaker suddenly stopped working, my amp is only 50 watts never blown a guitar speaker before shouldn’t it have a buzzing sound or something first, how do I test the speaker and if needed which is the replacement. Awsome speaker still would recommend to anyone
Why no 2×12 cab?
We used to make a 2×12 and they never sold very well to be honest. And at this point our 1x12s are so popular stacked to give that 2×12 vibe (sounds the same) BUT having two 1x12s is way more versatile as you can split the speaker cabs for different application if you wanted (one cab on either side of stage or room, a cab in front as a personal monitor as well as behind, etc.)…
Greetings,
I am shredding hard on your 20w Rev Jr full stack all the way in darkest Africa (Johannesburg, South Africa). You have mentioned that the 20w Rev Jr. Head can be hooked up to 4×12 cab. I am currently running the head through its stock pair of 1×12 cabinets but would like to add my Mesa 2×12 (8 ohm) cabinet to it. How do you recommend I wire up the two Krank cabs with the Mesa cab and what ohm setting on the amp should I select? Also, I want run my Mesa/Boogie TriAxis into the head, is it ok to to use the “effects return” of the Rev Jr. to do so?
Lastly: I love this amp! But even at 20w its too loud to dime in my apartment. Would there be any harm in using a THD Hotplate with the setup I have suggested above?
Thanks for making awesome amps! I hope that your response will help me spread the Krank word further with the growing metal community in South Africa. \m/(><)\m/
DMan
Hey man glad the amp is kicking ass for you! So to answer your q’s you can use the Mesa 2×12 too, simply daisy chain the two Krank cabs together coming out of one speaker out and the Mesa on the other. I realize the head only has 16 and 8 ohm setting and technically you’d be running a four ohm load with all those speakers together but it should be ok within reason to do so. When you get into “no no” territory for sure is trying to run something that is more than a one setting off, like 16 ohm setting into a 4 ohm cab, etc.
As far as the Triaxis sure you could slave the head’s power section using the effects loop like you mentioned. And yes you can certainly use the THD hotplate or even try activating the effects loop as it will regulate the overall volume on the amp and simply bring the fx loop level down lower and push the main volume on the front of the amp, basically creating a kind of internal hotplate in the amp itself…whatever sounds best for you!
How can i get a replacement krank + dimebag emblem for the krankenstein cab? Somebody stole mine.
Yes sir we sell those, hit us up at sales@krankamps.com…
hey i was looking to get a new cab for christmas. i have a mesa boogie mark 5 and i was wondering which one to get. im not too technically savvy with impedences but my amp has 4 and 8 ohm outputs
Hey Conor our cabs are all 16 ohm but can be rewired for 4 ohm if needed…and to answer your q on which is the best match it’s very subjective as to what you’re looking to get tonally but all of them are high quality cabs…
im looking for a cab that has a tighter bass response and that can handle large amounts of gain. i only play metal so i rarely use the clean channel on my amp. the cab also needs to handle the range of 7 string guitars
Any of ours will do the trick!
thanks man! im going to get one for sure!
Happy to help!
Hey, I have a krankenstein 16 ohm parallel cab and I am thinking of buying a 100w Carvin sx300h head. With this combo work? Thanks.
Not familiar with the Carvin but if it’s an all tube amp as long as it has a 16 ohm speaker out there shouldn’t be any problem… Eeven if it only has a 8 ohm out you would still be ok fyi-
Will the krankenstein cab look awkward with a 5150 3 head or will it fit together?
Not sure of the dims on a 5150 III but I can’t see it being wider than the cab so it should look fine…
Will the dimensions add up or will the head be too big I guess is what I’m asking?
No it will be fine tho I would say you should just have a Krankenstein+ on top of it! :)
Hey i just got a krank 1×12 cabinet. My amp head only has 4 ohm and 8 hm outputs. can i connect it into the krank cab, as it says 16 ohm??
Forgive my ignorance…is this a closed back cab?
Yep closed back!
Sweet. I have a Bugera 333XL combo. It’s wired in stereo at factory to run a 16 ohms. It also has a switch that alternates between 4, 8 and 16 ohms. This being a mono cab, which setting would I use, if i can use it at all?
Thanks
If the cab is 16 ohms use that setting on the amp, you should be fine!
Hey Catero,
I know you have probably answered this question 100 times on this site alone but I believe I have one of the first rev cabs Maybe from ’04-’05, white tolex with a chrome grill and the only lettering anywhere is on back and it says 16 ohm. What model and watts Eminence 12″ would be loaded in there? Thanks again!
Ha I may have answered a few like this! Most likely what you have is a Rev 4×12 with Eminence Legend V12s…
