One of the most asked for products by Krank users has been the Jr. version of Dimebag Darrell’s mighty Krankenstein+ amp and the mini versions certainly capture it’s big brother’s tone! Using the same tone circuit that was developed with Dime, the Krankenstein Jr. offers all of his signature sound at lower wattages, making it a great choice for that awesome high gain sound at lower volumes for the home or studio yet still being powerful enough for a club gig. Features include a 3-band eq, parametric mid-sweep, gain, footswitchable Dime and Kleen channels, tube driven active effects loop, ohm selector and voltage selector for worldwide use.
These amps are excellent studio amps as well as being ideal for band rehearsal and club gigging. The matching 1×12 cabs and great for practice as well as miking up nicely in the studio, giving you great separation without the phasing that can accompany miking a 4×12. Also another great choice to match with the 50W head is the Rev SST cab, giving you a high quality gigging rig at an affordable price!!!
- Two channel, footswitchable 50W head
- Preamp three 12AX7 tubes, power section two Sovtek 5881 tubes
- Krank channel: sweep control, 3 band eq, gain, master, Kleen channel: volume, 2 band eq

Finally, what I’ve been expecting for quite some time!
What store is supplying these right now?
While stock may vary any of our dealers can get it for you, both physical and online. Please check the dealer locator to see what’s near you and if you have any specific questions about particular dealers please e-mail us at sales@krankamps.com
a lot of places are actually on back order, people have been picking these things up like theres no tomorrow. a lot of smaller stores carry them in stock however, not chain retailers like guitar center, but mom and pop style stores
Great for those Dimebag Darrell, and lead guitar tones. I would NOT suggest this for the rythm guitarist.
Haven’t had any complaints about the rhythm tones from the Krankenstein Jr. here at Krank so far, if anything it’s very much been the opposite! Buy hey if you have any specific questions of concerns feel free to message me here on the site via the “Artist Relations” selection, totally happy to help you out or answer q’s man…
Could you make a booklet telling us some lead settings from some of your artists, then send the booklet to your dealers… Thanks
We’ll be compiling a lot of that over the next few months, most likely it will just be posted here on the website!
Thanks for answering , when will all the new amps like the dirty valve 200, nineteen80 and the classic jr. be coming out, also do you think you’ll be coming out with some new guitar amps such as the rev or Krankenstein (not Jr.’s) if so what will they do (as for guitar playing styles) and when will they come out? ….Thanks
Right now the Nineteen80 and Nineteen80 Jr. (that is what was initially called the Classic when we were prototyping) are looking like they will be hitting stores next month. The Dirty Valve D-800, the hybrid version, is scheduled to come out hopefully by Halloween and the Basszilla cab is actually coming available now. After that we have some other things in the cooker but nothing solid yet!
Is there going to be a Dirty Valve jr.?
Pretty sure at this point there will be…. :)
50w, footswitchable is very attractive
I really want to hear demos of this amp. When do we have?
We should hopefully have some more demos up on these in the next couple of weeks!
I have two marshall 1936 2×12 cabs and with each cab having two inputs rated at 75w a piece and 16ohms. Can I split this 8 ohm signal into these, or do I need to get the krankenstein+? I just wanted this one so it would be not as ear piercing since I play in a basement, but I dont want to push the tubes too hard and blow it out. I dont know too much about wiring. I currently use a solid state fender with a 100w 4ohm output and that seems to work but its a little loud and I would love something that sounds better.
If you’re running two 16 ohm 2×12 cabs the Krankenstein Jr. on the 8 ohm setting will be fine and push the cabs quite well! If you’re playing in a basement really that head will be ideal it sounds like for what you’re doing. Depending on the sound levels of the rest of the band (if that’s the case here) you may want to spend the little extra and go for the 50W over the 20W to give yourself some headroom tho the 20W will handle itself pretty well in that situation…
Krank needs to sell in India too. We are starving for that real High Gain Sound.
The Models that will sell like hotcakes are the Krankenstein Jr. & the Rev Jr.
Guys here don’t buy louder Amps because of smaller houses :D
You can contact http://www.bajaao.com or http://www.furtadosonline.com for distribution.
P.S: KRANK, Please sell your GEMS in India ;)
We’re always trying to improve our distribution over the world and deff appreciate hearing from you! We’ll check into things!
How about some metal clips of this amp!!! Show us what the Krankenstein (20w and 50w) junior can do. There are No clips anywhere on this amp.
We have some clip coming forth on those soon, hopefully in the next couple of weeks!
In the next couple of weeks… too long for us man!
Hi, what will be the main difference in audio between this and the Rev Jr
Basically they’re voiced a little different, juts like the Rev+ and Krankenstein+ are… We took the tone stack that was developed with Dime for his Krankenstein and adopted it into this lower wattage Jr….
Does this means its not the same tone?
Yeah it’s voiced a little differently just as the Krankenstein+ is different from the Rev+…
What are the Physical dimensions of this head? L x W x D?
The dims on the head are 15 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
I mean L x H x D !!! Sorry!!!
Why on earth would it cost $110.00 USD more for camo or other colored tolex besides black? I was gonna buy one till I saw that bs.
Actually man it’s not bs! The reason for the upcharge on colored tolex is because all that is done in the custom shop on an individually ordered basis so it costs more to make. And actually the camo until the end of the year is free for the Krankenstein Jr. introduction. These amps are U.S. made products, not Chinese, and far superior to any of the other small micro stacks and yet still in the same price range, there’s a lot of value here for what you get comparably. And is there another amp manufacturer that offers all those colors on any amp/cab they make without upcharging?
The camo tolex isn’t free according to your online store. I know where the amp is made- thanks. What does the “great value” of the amp have to do with charging $110.00 for a different color tolex? That is BS. You put the tolex on in your “custom shop” hahahahahahaha!!!!! OK. Upcharge if you must but $110.00 – not today.
My mistake- I see where the camo is free- sorry. I am going with the 120watt Rev + it sounds AWSOME. I will be ordering black though :)
Joe sorry you feel that way man. What I meant about the amp having great value and the custom tolex upcharge is many boutique and mainstream companies make an inferior sounding high gain micro stack that carry pricetags way more than ours! You have to understand, the majority of amp companies have the bulk of their amps made cheaply overseas and you get inferior products, especially if you’re looking for a good all tube high gain amp…and don’t just take my word for it, get online and investigate it. So to make a better product here in the U.S. simply costs more across the board BUT the most important thing is achieved – you get a better amp for it! But by design at Krank we consciously have made the Jr. amps and cabs affordable so everyone can afford a kick ass sounding amp, and yeah we have to charge more for custom colors because they ARE hand done in our shop on a made-to-order basis where we make our black in bulk. Man hours of construction plus more expensive tolex make us have to upcharge. And there aren’t many other companies that offer these type of upgrades for all their products like we do, and if they do I can almost guarantee you it will cost more than what we charge!
So you’re completely entitled to your opinion, I just wanted to further explain why the upcharge…and yeah the Rev+ is an awesome sounding amp, you’ll definitely dig it!
Hey- believe me- I am 100% for USA made products and wish you guys even further success. I gotta say that I think highly of you guys for posting my comment and not just deleting it- that says alot IMO. Thanks for the replys and I see where you are coming from. The custom color tolex is a cool option for sure. Peace.
Hey no prob replying back, truthfully man I just want to help, answer q’s, further explain things…whatever so everyone can at least get an idea of all things Krank! So if you ever have any other q’s feel free to hit me up with them dude!
just curious when and are you guys going to make a 212 combo? just find them more convenient.
We’ve talked about making a combo kit for the Jr. heads where the same chassis fits into a combo but it’s only in the discussion stages right now…a possibility tho!
Where’s the clips? Need metal clips please.
Working on getting some up!
What are all the differences between this and the 120 watt krankenstien+ head?
The main differences besides the obvious wattage difference is the Jr. version doesn’t have the overall master or the Master 2 but other than that it’s very close!
To Catero: it’s about months from last time before up there. Plz We’re waiting demo clip of this babboy. Don’t make it longer.
PS: I love this kind of communication between Customers and Company ;) Thumb up! ;)
Boy getting called out on the Krankenstein Jr. clips here haha! I’ll see if I can get things expedited on those clips :) And hey I’m totally happy to answer q’s and talk with all the Krank customers, hey I’m a player too and know how it goes!!!!
Hey can you differntiate the Krankenstein Jr. from the Rev Jr.? They both have 20w models. What are the tonal differences? And which has higher gain?
Thanks
The basic difference is a slightly different circuit on the Krankenstein Jr. that does produce a little more gain tho both have tons of gain to spare! And yes they both have 20W and 50W versions…
And may i also ask the difference of the Rev Jr. from the Rev Jr. Pro. Thanks.
Basically the Rev Jr. Pro is a footswitchable version of the Rev Jr. Standard tho the tone is different between the two somewhat. Part of this has to do with the Standard’s basic design being more unique as it’s an old school type of design with the clean channel being a classic small amp one knob setup as well as being able to boost the clean and dirty channels with extra gain thru the Boost button or active effects loop. The Pro version is more along the lines of the Rev+ in functionality. Both are very cool tho!
Yesterday we received our Krankenstein 50 W. amp and it’s the ultimate brutality and what’s more – it’s really convenient! Light and small but sounding better than perfect!
Played it all noght! ))
damn man!!!!! you guys sure know how to keep us waiting and going crazy for that stein jr demo!!!im goin crazy waiting to hear this thing hurry up before i explode!!!
Hi. I asked American Musical Supply if they would carry the krankenstein Jr. but they said they would not. I like to buy from them because of their nice payment plans. Is there anything that krank can do to get AMS to carry their krankenstein jr. or the rev jr.? Please email me back or respond on this forum. Thanks!
Hi, I’m interested in a Krankenstein jr. I would like to hear some sound samples. Can you tell me where I could try one out, I´m living in The Netherlands.
Thanks.
Hey today I’ve went to a dealer here to check the krankstein jr. 20w
the problem was that when we tried to get the gain level to over 9 the amp just started screaming..
Although last time I went there I tried the kranstein jr 50w and I don’t remember it making those static noises..(although it was a while and of course we were only on level 2)now I couldn’t compere those because they sold the 50w
my question is this… I won’t have a use in the 50w…
but I’m also afraid I’m gonna suffer from the static noises of the 20w..
so I’m kinda looking for some advice here…
another thing on a low-mid volume is there any different between the 50w head and the 20w head? especially about the “punch” of the sound?
Thanks In advanced.
Ben.
I’m also dying the hear demos of the krankestein jr.(dime sig) 50w head and 20w head… that would sure help me decide about the head for me…
if you already made those I’ll be glad to get some links for it…thanks.
What you’re running into here is probably how the amp was set up. The gain at that level can get a little squirrely if you have it gained all the way up and are trying to blast the volume too…remember it’s a 20W all tube head! Because it’s small in nature a lot of people tend to compare it sonically in their head to other small practice amps that aren’t all tube heads, and this one is especially different in nature as it’s a very high gain tube head in such a small package. The 50W version you probably didn’t notice anything with because with the extra wattage it has a little more headroom.
Now because you stated it had some static noises as well that could simply be that particular unit has a preamp tube that is going bad, the shop could simply switch the preamp tube positions around and that might eliminate that…or it’s possible it needs a new tube altogether. Ask the shop if they can check the tubes for you.
As far as “punch” between the two the 50W will probably feel punchier simply by nature of being a higher wattage amp and that punch would come from sheer volume! But both have the same circuitry and when recorded sound identical if that helps at all. One other thing here, I prefer the amps as far as practicing with both 1×12s versus just one when wanting a punchy feel and that comes down to just basic physics, two 1×12s sound bigger than one!
Just wondering…do you think that it sounds just as good as it’s higher watt version?
Yeah I do, volume is the really the only difference here!
hey man i just got the Krankenstein head and i absolutely love it, but im playing it through a peavey 6505 Cab. Ive read up on the Peavey cabs and ive heard that it can muddy up the sound of the amp. I would really love to have a Krank Cab, but my funds are short (from buying the head) any suggestions as to what sort of cab i could run it through to improve the clarity? also, what pedals would you recommend putting in front of this?
Yeah the Peavey cab is deff a cheaper cab and can muddy things up a bit. Seeing as you have a Krankenstein Jr. truthfully the ideal cab to go with here is the SST cab, that heads sounds awesome thru it! And it’s not as expensive as our poplar cabs, that one runs street price about $699… As far as pedals you can certainly try some sort of tube screamer pedal in front of it for soloing, etc.!
I’d like to hear more about the clean channel. Most reviews tend to skip over it. I love a clean channel that’s full, rich, and glassy (Fender-like) or chimey (Vox-like). The Rev’s clean channel has been described as having lots of midrange (Paul’s guitar world review), which is a minus for me.
So I’m wondering if the Krankenstein Jr 50W’s clean channel is more full bodied than that. And how well the clean channel is going to take pedals, like a tube screamer for example… seems like I could get a huge range of tones out of this Krankenstein Jr with a nicely designed, versatile clean channel.
I think from what you describe you would like the clean on the Krankenstein Jr. The clean on it as well as the Rev Jr. Pro sit differently than the Rev Jr. standard and will definitely get more chimey for you. And it most certainly takes pedals very well as I’ve heard a few players using various stomp boxes and having great results. Line up that tube screamer and go!
Thanks I appreciate your quick reply. Would love to try one out.
greta amp i just wish the clean had a master volume
Hmm. What “phasing” can occur when micing a 4×12?
99% of the time I will be playing at home, and recording. Do I need a 4×12 and the Krankenstein+ to achieve the BEST possible tone? Or will the Junior models give me the SAME tone?
Thanks
When miking up a 4×12 depending on which mics you use you can get phasing from the soundwaves of the unmiked speakers hitting the microphone and crashing into the soundwaves of the miked speaker. This isn’t nearly as prominent with an SM57 due to the nature of that mic but other mics phasing can be an issue at times when under the microscope in a studio. At home you may not notice things as much but when you hear a single 12″ miked up the exact same way as a 4×12 you would hear the difference! Guitar left-guitar right style recordings it isn’t too much of a concern but once you start stacking up guitar tracks it can become troublesome at times, giving you unwanted frequencies in your overall spectrum.
No you can achieve some great tones with the Jrs! Volume is only a real factor live, in the studio most of the time smaller is better! Joe Perry of Aerosmith has achieved most of his classic tones on small wattage amps with a single 12″ cab! And I was talking with Michael Wilton of Queensryche today actually and he was going on about how great the Jrs sounded recorded. Of course if you’re looking for a head that will be monster loud live for shows and go home and record with the Krankenstein+ may be the deal for you, if not the Jrs are probably what you’re looking for!
Thanks for the response. That really helps me out
Will there ever be a Krankenstein Cab Jr (1×12) ? :)
Well we experimented with putting the Texas Heat in the Jr. cab to go with the Krankenstein Jr. but ultimately liked Legend V12 better for the Jr heads in general. Now that’s not to say a Jr. cab couldn’t be special ordered with a Texas Heat and we’d be happy to do something like that! Would be a slight upcharge but not too bad…
Sounds good.. I may do that, but still much to consider.
What was it that sounded better with the legends over the heats?
The Legends for the use with the Jrs were just a little tighter. I think that the Texas Heat being a 150W speaker too has a little something to do with it, that the Jr. heads don’t have enough wattage to break up the cone like the big heads do. That’s not to say the Texas Heat doesn’t sound good in the Jr. cabs when the big heads are being run thru them because they deff do!
Hi,I live in rural areas and I don’t exactly need a huge half stack krankenstein, does the jr. have as much distortion? Because I hate distortion pedals and I want an amp that I can just plug into and chug away on and also tell me if theres any difference from the rev the krankenstein.
Thanks
Well my brother you just found the head for you then with the Krankenstein Jr.! Yeah it’s the full on high gain 20 and 50W versions of the bigger head. The main difference between the Rev Jr. Pro and Krankenstein Jr. is basically about the same difference between their big brothers – the Krankenstein Jr. has a little more gain and is voiced just a bit differently. It’s pretty ideal for jamming at a good volume without needing to play large club loud so I think it’s what you’re looking for…
is there going to by a video demonstration of it?
Yes we’ll have something up on this hopefully sooner than later!
Seriously…this post is nearly six months in length. Whos in charge or Marketing!? You’d sell a hell of alot more maps if you’d post a decent demo. And no offense to your demo players but Krank amps are known for metal…get someone up there thats gonna push the limits.
Been trying to get some up here guys…small staff currently so other things have taken priority so I hope you all can understand. After the new year we’ll be doing a round of new demos so hang tight!
Hey,
What about us bass players? When are you going to satify our metal urges? I’m sick of the options we have. A quality, hand made tube amp that doecn’t sound like another Ampeg would be absolutely out of this world. Thanx!!!! Rock on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Check the front page news articles my brother!
Seems to be impossible to get a Krank Jr. in Germany.
I need one!!! Really!!!
Can’t you find a dealer in Berlin?
u could look for the nearest location and have them ship it to u, it may cost a bit more, but it is a krank Jr.!
what is the best cab for this head, is there a somewhat portable cab i can take like in a car…even when packed with people?
Hey Alex if space is an issue go with the 1×12 cabs! With both cabs to make the full stack it’s still really portable and yet you can still rock the club gig!
thanks, now i can blast a krank anyfuckingwhere!
You guys need clips of the Krankenstein JR badly or you will not sell many. There are no youtube clips from anyone who owns one out there and you guys don’t have any on here. Leads me to believe there is something amiss with it. It doesn’t take long to do a video. No dealer within 150 miles of me (Austin,TX) stocks them either. Really wanted one but got to hear it first!
Actually man they sell like hotcakes regardless but I very well know what you mean by needing to get some clips up, we just haven’t had any done and we’re a small group at the shop here BUT I know the Tone King will be posted some up from NAMM as well as us shooting a lot of new clips in the next 3 weeks, will get some made!
Hey Catero, is possible to connect this head with the Krankenstein+ cab?
And, have the Krankenstein+ and the jr. the same tone? The difference between these 2 are just the watts?
Thank’s a lot.
Yep you can connect it up no prob tho the 50W pushes it better fyi… And yes these amps are basically the same tone in smaller wattage versions!
Still no video/audio demos of the Krankestein Jr.’s?
Working on them! Now that NAMM is over we should be able to get some more stuff up within the next 2-3 weeks!
Am curious if you have looked at putiing a headphone jack on any of the Jr. amps? Live in an apartment and it sure would be great!
We have but the original design wasn’t intended for that and to do so sacrifices some much needed board space! Most people tell me they use a speaker emulation program on their computer and run the amp into those…
hey catero i really love krank and i am dying to get my hands on the stein jr but money is extremly tight..i have 2 kids and my wife cant work..just wondering if there was anything i could do for u guys to get my hands on one..maybe come mop the floors at the factory hahaha thnx
Ha wish I could help you out in that regard…I guess keep saving man! It’s a killer amp and will be worth it!
Ordered mine yesterday, can’t wait!!!!
Hi I have been looking at the krankenstein jr. 50 watt, I am using a 1980’s 4×12 cab that I just re speakered with the texas heats. Just wondering if the 50 watts is enough to drive the cab. thanks and keep rocking.
Hey Dennis yeah the Krankenstein Jr. 50W should have no prob pushing that cab for you!
Hey Chris just wondering how the stein jr’s handle low tunnings.I like to tune in drop B and alot of other amps i’ve played get too muddy. Also what would you recomened for home use the 20 or 50..I know that the 20 would be plenty but i dont wanna get it and then wish i got the 50 instead.Thanx for the input
Sorry for the delay response bud, was out travelling! Yes those amps will handle the low drop tunings just fine. For home use the 20W may be better suited but if you think you might be gigging I’d grab the 50W depending on how big the places are you’d be playing. But if you’re going to be playing it strictly at home the 20W will be just fine!
How much weight of this amp ?
Around 20 lbs!
