For years players have modded their older amps trying to achieve some of the great classic and hard rock tones heard on countless platinum albums during the late 70’s and on through the ’80’s. With the Nineteen80 all the tricks, bells and whistles of the day are already in the amp, giving players a ton of tonal options. Powered by two 6550 power tubes, this two channel 80W head has a sweet midrange roar through it’s matching 13-ply baltic birch 4×12 cab loaded with premium Eminence Governor speakers. You’ll find all the standard Krank features with a 3-band eq, presence, gain. sweep, and volume on the Krank channel, volume, treble and bass on the Clean channel, ohm selector and worldwide voltage switch. But new to a Krank is a tube-driven, footswitchable active effects loop with individual level controls for both the send and return of the loop. And because the loop levels can be controlled an added bonus is you can use the loop as a footswitchable lead boost even without any effects in the loop!
Two channel, footswitchable 80W head- Preamp five 12AX7 tubes, power section two Sovtek 6550 tubes
- Separate volume and eq sections per channel
- Footswitchable tube-driven active effects loop, gain, sweep control on Krank channel
- Global presence control, worldwide voltage use, ohm selector, footswitch

GEAR USED: Rev+, Nineteen80, Rev Cab, Nineteen80 Cab, Rev Jr. Cabs.
At the age of 8, I inherited a bass from my uncle, who died tragically in a motorcycle accident in San Leandro, CA.....
Does the preamp actually use 5 12AX7 tubes? Or is that the total amount including the effects loop tube(s)?
That’s the amount including the fx loop…but realize that if you have no effects in the loop you can still use it as a footswitchable lead channel boost and utilize that extra tube as additional gain!
Commenting as a proud owner of one of these bad boys, I have to say I was absolutely floored by this amp! Krank description of this amp is spot on. It’s a hot rodded crunch machine. It has an awesome mid range snarl, great low end, and it cuts through a mix like a hot knife through butter. I am EXTREMELY pleased with this amp! (Playing it through a 412 Rev Cab)
Any idea on pricing and a release date for the 50 watt Jr. head and the matching cab? Pics would be great too!
We’re currently hoping for the Jrs that we can have them out in March, pics will be forthcoming!!!
What tubes will the 50w version have?
Any other differences?
They’ll have 6L6 tubes in the power section. The other difference is the effects loop isn’t footswitchable on the Jr model…
That’s great! Can you ball park the prices for the head and cab?
Sure the Nineteen80 head is $1299 street price and $799 for the cab!
Sorry, I meant the Jr. head and Jr. cab!
Ah! Street prices are $599 and $699 respectively for the 20W and 50W versions, $249 for the cab!
Are the Jr. models still on track to be relased this month?
Potentially by month’s end…if not early April then!
Will the Jr. versions have the chicken head knobs? I love those things!
I think the Jr. version will have the knobs!!
I LOVE THIS FREAKIN HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SO MUCH POWER
I put my gain on 2-3 and use my DBA interstellar overdriver to get a nice crunch-aholic sound. I do wish you guys would make a slant cab in the near future.
Glad you like it that much bro! Prob won’t be making a slant but the straight matching cab sounds killer, deff worth the investment!!!!
Will the effects loop be foot-switchable on the Jr. versions as well?
Unfortunately no the Jr. design simply won’t allow for it space-wise…
…perhaps the Nineteen80 will be released in time for the winter holidays then? It’d make for a great stocking stuffer.
*crosses fingers*
Try more like Memorial Day! Deff coming out this May!
Any update on the release date of the Jr. version of this amp?
Early summer looks like…
Hey Chris…are you guys gonna have any printed catalog/materials available….with front and back shots of each amp…I’d like to see what the back panel of the nineteen80 looks like….as well as the Rev +.
Not sure when we’re going to have more catalogs done but I’ll see if we can post up some more detailed Nineteen80 pics in the next couple weeks…
Just ordered one of these bad boys! Can you provide the head’s dimensions? KRANK RULES!
It’s a great amp! The dims are 25 9/16″ x 10″ x 8 3/4″….
Thanks man! Coming from Rev1 combo I’m ordering this amp on spec and word of mouth alone but it sounds like its exactly what I want so I’m sure it won’t disappoint!
……………………………………….
Dude this amp will most deff not disappoint!!!!!
when is this coming to guitar center?
You should probably be able to special order thru GC now :) They may have to build the sku in their system but that shouldn’t be a problem! It’s a bad ass head btw, you will totally dig it…
This amp sounds amazing! I have been looking for a successor to my Marshall DSL 100 for a long time now, but everything has either been too hot, too loose, or too american. But this amp has everything! It has that snappy bottom end, smooth high end, and full british midrange that I love; Plus 6550 tubes will have a much longer life than EL34s. I cant wait to hit this amp with my tube screamer and shatter some eardrums!
You will 100% love it!
Are the Nineteen80 cabinets oversized?
The Nineteen80 cabs are oversized, being the exact same size as the Rev and Krankenstein cabs. The great thing about that cab is that with the Eminence Governor speakers, which sound like the good old broken in 70′s era V30s, the cab has all the same midrange as some of the classic rock cabs BUT can get that extra low end those cabs can’t. It’s awesome!
that’s what i’m thinking…i need one!
will it be possible to get these covered in white or red tolex?
Sure no prob! It’s a custom shop upgrade but yes it can be done for sure!
Why is it so hard to find the Nineteen80 for sale at online retailers like Guitar Center, Music123 etc?
It’s because it’s a new item tho Guitar Center should be able to order it for you. Music 123 hasn’t gotten any in yet, you can ask them to order it as well…
Wondering if there has been any update to the release/availability of a Nineteen80 Jr. amp head?
I love the amp, but don’t need more than 20 watts in my home studio.
Thanks.
Actually there has been some news, circuit boards are in the production process which should speed things up quickly…hopefully they will be available in Oct!
i cant wait to play on a Nineteen80 stack. my fave amp is the K-stein+ but i love the modded/hot rodded British tones as well….
will the Nineteen80 head and cab be available with in black tolex and with the metal grill instead of cloth? if so will there be an upcharge for this?
Hey Mike yeah you will absolutely love the Nineteen80!!!! And yes you can get the cab and head in any of the grill configurations you’d like. The only upcharge at the moment is the chrome…eventually the tan/pepper grill cloth will be an upcharge too with black the standard but we’re doing either without one for it’s kickoff this year!
If a 50 watt version of the Nineteen80 is coming out will it have the exact same features (except power of course) as the 80 watt version?
Also when will they be available?……It`s torture waiting for retailers to carry these as regularly stocked items and not special order
items!
Hey Eric the one thing the Jr. 50W version will not have is the footswitchable effects loop. We’re looking at availability within the next month or so, and while i would love to say all retailers would have stock on everything with the economy being the way it is it’s a little harder nowadays to get them to keep stocked up. I will say this the full size Nineteen80 is available now and is seriously one of the best heads out there for rock right now regardless of price, and it’s price is half that of others that aren’t as good…
What power tubes will the 50w version have?
what type of transformer is in this head? where can you buy it?
It’s a custom Schumacher transformer…and yeah you can buy it, get in touch with the tech dept thru the website for pricing!
Hey Chris, any update on the Nineteen80 Jr. heads/cabs? A true release date, pricing, and pics would be great! It’s the middle of November… let’s ROCK! Thanks!
You know I wish I had a solid delivery date but unfortunately I don’t. There was a back up with our circuit boards that has thrown us out way longer than anticipated so I hesitate to promise any time frame. I do believe the first ones will see the light of date by the end of the year but again I can’t say for sure that will be the case. However the street pricing will be $599 for the 20W, $699 for the 50W, cabs will be $249…
Any word on the Jr’s yet? I own the 80w head and would love a 20w version!
They’ll be readily available shortly after we come back from the Winter NAMM show, by the end of Jan for sure!
Chris….I hate to keep buggin` ya but what`s the status on the Nineteen80 Jrs now? I`ve got some GAS for a new amp and they`ve been on my list for months now!…..I`m O.K. for now I think because Jeff Young`s NAMM 2011 jams may have caused me to go buy a Gibson Flying V!
Actually they’re sneaking onto the market as we speak! Hit us up at sales@krankamps.com for details…
When will the site be updated with pictures and info on the nineteen80 jr?
It’s coming very soon, in the meantime go to the NAMM 2011 Video Collection article on the website’s man news and you can see and hear it being demoed by Toby Keith’s guitarist Joey Floyd…here’s the link: http://www.krankamps.com/news/namm-2011-video-collection-3132
Will the ’80 Jr. have the same FX Loop as the full size ’80 ? Will the loop have adjustable send and return levels?
No essentially it only has the adjustable fx boost and this is due to the size of the head, there’s only so much circuit board real estate to go around on the back…but I can say it does sound great regardless!
Will there be a 50 watt version of this and if so where can I find this? Because I can’t seem to find it anywhere…
There will be a 50W Jr version sometime in the summer….
Awesome What will the pricwe be??
Price on a Nineteen80 is $1299 street!
I would love to see this amp with a built in attenuator, like the Blackstar Series One has. I wouldn’t need another amp then!
Hi I just wanted to throw it out there. You guys should make small 1×12 combos and 1×10 combo amps with tube and fx loop in them for practicing back stage or in the house.
We already have developed the 1×12 combo, should see it out early this coming year!
I’m itrested in the ninteen80 but I can’t find it for sale anywhere. Whats up!
They’re not in many shops this time of year tho you can order one online from our web store easy enough!
How do you utilize the Loop for the lead boost without effects actually in the boost?
Basically there’s a button in the back that engages the loop and turns it on in the circuit. Then you can use the individual send and return knobs to set your levels so when you footswitch to the loop it’s hotter than the rhythm channel…
