The second generation of the flagship Rev Series One amps, the Rev +. What’s the warranty on the Rev+? Are their places that service these under warranty throughout the US?
The warranty is a limited lifetime warranty meaning everything is covered for the life of the amp minus common wear items (tubes, fuses, etc.). The warranty is only good for the original owner and does not cover user damage. So basically if a transformer, capacitor, resistor, basically any part that would leave you dead in the water goes wrong we’ll cover it! At the moment we service all amps out of our home shop in Tempe, AZ…
Have you guys noticed any problems running this through non Krank cabs? Just curious because I can’t afford to replace my cab and amp at the same time. Should I start with this amp or go for the rev cab first? I’m running a 100watt solid state head.
Well there’s deff no problem running the Rev+ into other cabs, you’ll just be limited by what the cab can do as our cabs are oversized and better constructed to handle the low end the head can produce. Without knowing what cab you currently are using I would say if I was to prioritize things it would be to get the head first as I know the Rev+ will smoke whatever solid state you’re using then save up for the cab. hey guys, was wondering if running pre and power amps seperate from the unit would be recommended or required for small club gigs with a rev+ head and cab?
So are you talking about using the effects loop on the head to run the preamp out into a smaller wattage power amp? If so you would still need to be able to put a load across the Rev+’s power section or burn it up! Or are you talking about the opposite, running a preamp into the loop and using the power section? Clarify a little here!
sorry, yeah running a preamp into the loop and utilizing the power section, like a triaxis pre and a 2:90 power.
OK yeah that’s no problem to do that! I’m guessing you’re going to use some type of preamp/processor on smaller gigs to keep the sound levels down….? At any rate yeah you can slave the power section of the amp thru the effects loop, no sweat…

Well the difference is the obvious….! LOL! No the Krankenstein+ has a differently voiced clean channel, a little more gain and an overall master volume that directly controls the power section of the amp. When asked “what amp is better?” the real truth of the matter is it’s completely subjective. Some people think they absolutely want a Krankenstein then after all is said and done end up with a Rev, or vice versa! Both are awesome amps!

hey, for christmas hopefully i will be getting a rev+, i have a peavy windsor cabinet and i dont have enough money for a new cabinet. i know somebody asked before about using different cabinets but, do you know anything about my cab and can you tell me if it will be okay? also, i have a gibson les paul studio and a guitar with P-90s. les paul should be good, but since its a high gain amp, will i be getting more feedback then guitar sounds with P-90s? just in case, i also asked for a noise suppressor pedal for christmas. thank you for reading my very long question. haha if you did… just kidding. hope you do though.
Hey man no prob answering you! Truthfully I’ve never played that head thru a Peavey cab so I’m not sure what the response of the cab will be. I’m sure our cab would sound much better but just make sure the ohm setting match for the optimal performance of both! As far as the rest of your rig the Les Paul will sound great and really you won’t too much in the way of squealing, at least we don’t here at the shop. The cab will obviously be part of that equation but I think you’ll be good !
yo catero, i got the rev plus and the noise suppressor pedal for christmas. fuck yeah. but i have one problem, maybe im just retarded or something but, when i try to run my boss ns-2 noise suppressor pedal through the send and return on the back of the amp, its just not working. but when i go straight from guitar to pedal to input, it works. maybe im doing something wrong but i feel like a dumbass and hopefully im not insane and there is an explanation for why it isnt working.
Truthfully man just run the noise suppressor in line to your amp! The Rev+ is a very quiet amp on it’s own and it’s usually pedals that will add in any extra noise, placing the noise suppressor in line versus putting it in the loop will probably be the ticket for you. However if you want to use the pedal in the loop 1) make sure the fx loop is engaged and turned up, and 2) make sure you have the cables correctly going to the send and return!

hey, i realized that there are about 50,000 comments about the tubes and how they have to be replaced every year and how they are a nightmare, am i really about to be tangled within the darkness of the tubes shadows?
Haha don’t fear the tubes! Yes tubes have to be replaced and can fail on you on occasion but nothing can really replace that sound they produce! Depending on how much you play the amp you won’t need to change tubes that often. On a professional gigging level tubes only need to be replaced probably every six months, on a casual playing schedule tubes could last up to a couple years… You have to use your ears and when you start noticing a sound difference it’s probably time. As far as tubes going bad just kind of remember that you get what you pay for when replacing them, that better brands tend to last longer and be more reliable. With all Kranks the power tubes (which are the most expensive tubes you would have to replace) and quality Sovtek tubes and are extremely reliable! We use Ruby high grade tubes for the preamp and they too are great, long-lasting tubes. You will just have to add an extra measure of care with a tube amp but you will dig the tone!

You guys at krank make one damn fine amp!!! I was surprised to get all the tones out of the rev+ I wanted with the basic set up of the amp. Way more user friendly than some high end triple rectifier amps I looked at. Way better tone also!!! This is deffinately a tone monster. Thanks Krank!!

Do not work. I think the problem can be solved just through removing them from the website and then reuploading them. Whatever you used to put it on the site just re-doing it should fix the problem. Because the other samples do work so it should be an easy fix.
Dont know if you tried yes or no but it shouldnt be difficult as the other samples do work and those are only the older samples. (But they still just sound kick-ass and I just wanna be able to hear them again)

The dims on that head are 25 9/16″ wide x 10″ high x 8 3/4″ deep and add an extra 3/4″ to the height if you keep the feet on as well as an additional 3/4″ for the handle…

I’m sure your Diezel cab will handle it fine enough. As far as if it will sound better that a 6506+ the answer is most deff YES! Especially if it’s clarity and definition you’re looking for… They’re really not comparable to be honest as the 6505+ is in all reality a mid-price amp. It’s not a bad amp at all but it’s not at the caliber of a Rev+ for those wanting more boutique-natured tone and a wider, more open sounding head. You will totally like it!

Hey. I have a Krank Rev1 and while I like the amp, I get a certain about of fizz or harshness with a high gain setting and a reasonable volume. If I dime the violume, there is little fizz. Does anyone know of a way to tame the fizziness? I love the actual tone of the amp.
Hmmm fizziness huh? How much presence are you using? High presence levels can cause that somewhat on that particular amp as adding high gain with lots of presence sizzle is certainly a recipe for the fizz. Is this an original Rev btw or the Rev+? And did this just start or has it always done this? If you’re running reasonable levels in the high end and not really doing anything extreme there could be a problem possibly…
I have a Rev+ with rev cab, brand new from musiciansfriend.com a year or two ago. I have running it with a schecter c1 hellraiser and the first couple of months it sound awesome but, then I start noticing a loss in gain and distortion now seems so muddy and quiet. tried with other guitars and removing all the pedals from the signal chain and got the same sound, it doesn’t sound like in those audio clips posted here. I changed two tubes in the preamp, but didn’t notice a big difference. So do you think that the problem come from the power tubes or both or nothing at all? any recommendation? thanks!
If it sounded great to begin with ans then over time started losing gain I would bet you need a full tube replacement versus just the preamps. Tired power tubes can certainly cause what you’re experiencing. If you do that and you still have an issue I would contact the tech department thru the site!

Yep we still make it! I’ll try and get some info up on the site about them as soon as I can (didn’t realize the combos weren’t up there) but it’s basically the Rev+ or Krankenstein+ in a 2×12 combo form with the shell being all poplar construction and the same speakers as the 4×12 cabs… You can buy them in the Krank online store!

Hey Arturo no you’re not stuck to just the 6550′s, basically those transformers will take any tube you want. Just know however that if you do changes tubes out, even 6550′s of another brand other than Sovtek, you will have to get the amp rebiased for whatever that tube is…

Hey Eric the dims to the Rev+ are 25 9/16″ x 10″ x 8 3/4″ and add 3/4″ to the height of 10″ for either the feet or handles if you leave those on. As far as the difference between Kt88s and 6550s they are a little similar in that both tubes are aggressive in their output but the KT88s are more powerful. We’ve used both in the amps before and simply liked the 6550s more not to mention the KT88s can be too loud if you can understand what I mean there haha!

Actually you would push the voltage slider to the position that sits next to the 220-240W label and it will specify on the amp below the ac plug in what fuse should be used. But if you have an more tech questions just hit up the tech dept thru the Contact section of the site!

I just picked up a Rev+ and its awesome! I justed wanted to know what the settings were on the “stereo high gain” sound clips were. If possible please let me know how the master volume set. Thnks!
Truthfully I’m not sure what those exact settings were for that sample but I can say a good baseline to start off with is Presence at about 6, Sweep around 4, Bass around 6, Mid around 4, Treble around 7, Master 1 or 2 wherever you like for loudness, Gain around 8. Of course you can adjust from there. You’ll find the sound will radically change just by rolling the Sweep around, and that interacts directly with the eq, so there’s a lot of different ways you can change the sound of the amp!
i got a rev+ and it sounds great, but on the lead channel the amp is picking up radio stations.its really anoying. the guitar im running is a esp,ltd eclipse with emg active pickups. im also running a boss noise supressor straight to the amp. i have a diezel cab and ive ran my 6505 through it before and ive never had this problem. so im pritty shure its my rev+. thanks
Well Michael you must be in an area that has some pretty strong radio signals and your problem isn’t unheard of. Often times the wiring in the walls of a room can act as a giant antenna for radio signals, and the amps parts, like that giant transformer made of copper and steel can accentuate those frequencies. Part of the Rev+’s charm is how open and clear sounding it is, the reason for that is in layman’s terms we don’t put extra components that dampens the signal like say the 6505 BUT that same dampening type of effect also makes the 6505 sound muddy and squishy at higher stage volumes. Because the Rev+ is designed open sounding it is the give and take that can occasionally happen with radio signals. And when you couple all that with a guitar with very hot active pickups like EMGs amplifying things even more you have the perfect storm for picking up those signals. I myself experience that at our practice studio at times and only on a very rare occasion at a gig depending on where we’re touring. The only way around that is power conditioning and trying different outlets in the room which can help a lot…
I just bought a second hand Rev1. Knowing the good reputation of these amps I did even bother trying it before purchase… bad thing, when plugged in I found out the amp was producing an horrible SHHHHHH on the Krank channel, no matter what master in use. Any suggestion?
What did you upgrade the transformers too/ what are the transformers in the amp?
We beefed them up basically and improved the overall tone and capabilities. They’re Schumacher transformers!
Hey Chris; I’ve been using my Rev 1 since 2006 I think. It’s Rev 1 #1642. Do you think it would be worth to change it for a Rev+ ? I mean would the upgrade in the sound would really justify the change and the hassle being in Europe ? One thing that I thought was better on the Rev 1 is the power and standby knobs. Hey Lotfi I would say that the Rev+ deff sounds better to my ears but again it’s a subjective thing. In your case you’re right in needing to weigh in the costs of upgrading. Truthfully if I was you I’d set my eye on a Nineteen80, that is a bad ass head and would be different from your Rev1 sound but still very “Krank”….and you would love how those amps sound together recorded! BTW I’m with you in the old toggle switches, I always liked those haha…

Hey bro first off thanks for the props man, much appreciated! I try to help everyone the best I can! Now as far as tubes truthfully we use premium tubes tubes in the head to begin with as tubes are too important a part of the equation to skimp on! We use Sovtek 6550 power tubes and I’d recommend when the time comes to replace them with the same. There are other tubes out there that are good brands but at that point it’s very subjective. We use the Sovteks because they’re the most reliable and sound great!
Im replacing my preamp tubes, and I noticed one slot for the preamp tube has a metal sleeve around it. Is that where I should put a quite tube, or a tube with low noise?
Hey Matt the shielded tube is the high gain tube, the shield in on there to prevent noise! No all the tubes are the same 12AX7 tubes!

No they’re not, they need to be rebiased if different brand tubes are put in it…
Ok now this is a serious question. I need an amp with some serious balls im talking serious serious balls and i have heard good things about the mesa dual rectifier. Would the rev+ half stack be a better investment as far as gain that destroys and low end that shakes the earth?
If you think you would like a dual Recto then you would LOVE a Rev+. The Rev+ has a way tighter low end, tons of gain but none of the fuzziness that the Rectos can get…
I purchased a second hand revolution series one with chrome grill and noticed the power supply output has broken on two post so it moves around . It’s not completely broken off but I’d like to get it fixed. Also the footswitch does not change channels all the time when you step on it with your foot. Any resolutions to this since I’m not the original owner but this is my first Krank amp. Way ballsier than my Peavey Windsor or Marshall jcm 900.
Well I’m glad you’re diggin’ the amp, yep they’re ballsy alright :) Anyway seeing as you bought it used there’s no warranty with us anymore so I would take it in for repair at a local amp tech if possible, if not you can go thru us but will be charged for the repair. It’s prob not too difficult to repair the amp so I would look local first for sure! As far as the footswitch most likely it’s broken, you can buy one of those from us, they run $40. Just to mention that I bought a Krank Rev+ on July, and now I’m having troubles with the footswitch =/ it’s the very same issue as Rockstar. The problem is the connection inside the pedal … I need to move the cable and find the angle until it gets the connection. This is the first time that I’ve this issue with an amp, but this is not my first amp for sure.
The thing is that I can’t find this very same FS in Europe, so I’ll need to import it from USA.
Please consider the reliability of the FS for future models, as the amp is bad ass!

The footswitch is something we just can’t make here at the shop so we get them from the same place most amp companies get theirs and yeah if they give out it’s always the cord that seems to go out on those, really there’s not much we can do… But Like I told Rockstar if you want to order one from us modded that has a stereo 1/4″ jack out instead of the cable attached you can certainly do that, they’re $40. I was wondering why you guys added “upgraded transformers” to this head. Are the transformers on the rev 1 heads known to have any issues?
Oh no never any issues but we engineered and even beefier transformer that allowed us to use whatever power tube we wanted where as the old production transformers wouldn’t. Basically we just made some great even better!

Yep you’re fine swapping around preamp tubes, it’s the power tubes where you can affect performance or cause damage…
love this amp so much, is there any way though, that i can run my 6 band EQ pedal and my boss noise suppressor pedal through the effects loop without it sounding like poopy? maybe im an idiot but, i tried and it sounds kinda weird.. i would rather do that than plug my guitar into the pedals while im jumping around on stage.
Actually the eq pedal is more effective in front of the amp than in the loop, that’s part of the weirdness you’re experiencing in sound. You can always keep those two pedals on top of your head versus on the floor…
hey, the pedal that came with my rev plus broke a long time ago. and i know its not covered, but if i were to get just a SINGLE foot switch instead of the dual foot switch it came with, would that work? i mean, i dont use the second master really, but im not gonna just buy the single foot switch if its not compatible. my pedal has been broken for a while so, yeah, kindof unhappy that i cant use my clean channel live anymore. wish it was covered, but i guess im gonna have to toss another 50 bucks.
Well a single button will work, you just won’t have the option to switch the masters on the dirty channel. If you still have the old footswitch one thing you could do is take it to a tech and have them put a 1/4″ stereo jack in where the cable meets the pedal and then get a stereo cable. Typically in footswitches it’s the cable that gives out versus the pedal itself, by putting in a stereo jack you can simply replace the stereo cable should it go bad, and if you get a stereo cable from GC I know they’re usually covered for the life of the cable so you would only make that purchase once…just an idea. If not yes we can sell you a replacement footswitch, they’re $40 plus shipping and can be ordered off the webstore.

Hi catero,iv got a krankenstein plus 120 watt head,and a krank rev series 1,100 watt head now when i bought the rev 1 the guy i bought it off said it was upgradded so i asked how he said bigger transformers than normal he did say it was done at your place,now looking at the two amps the rev 1 as massive transformers but is 100 watts compered to the krankenstein which is 120 watts,is there anythin else you do to them when being upgradded,or if i give you the seriel number could you trace what it as had done,i know its a pain in the ass to ask but you dont get unless you ask,the amp was bought originaly from sounds great music store,,in manchester,uk,thanks for your time,mark,never sell the krank gear m8 awsome stuff,
Hey Mark it is possible you have a Rev that was upgraded with bigger transformers. If you’re saying the Rev’s are bigger than the Krankenstein+’s then it’s most likely a one-off upgrade however it is possible it’s a very early Rev with the old Mercury Magnetics transformers in them (they look more metallic grey than the dark colored Schumachers on the Krankenstein+). It is also very possible with that transformer upgrade makes it rated at more that 100W.
