One of the most popular trends has been the rise of lower wattage micro stacks and Krank Amps has lead the way with the Rev Jr., the 20W version of the monster Rev Series 1 head and cabs and the first in the line of the Jr. Series of small amps. The Rev Jr. boasts an all tube dual channel head (two 5881′s, three 12AX7′s) with boost switch and tube-driven active effects loop that gives even the most discerning tube amp enthusiasts an array of tones ranging from clean to high gain. The 1×12 cabs, featuring the same solid wood construction and Eminence speakers as the Rev 4×12 and are also capable of handling your favorite higher wattage head for home studio use.
- Two channel 20W head
- Preamp three 12AX7 tubes, power section two Sovtek 5881 tubes
- Volume, gain, 3 band eq, sweep control, push button “boost”, push button channel switch
- Tube-driven active effects loop, 8 and 16 ohm selector, worldwide voltage use

The online manual does not include information for the Jr. amps. Will these docs also be made available here on the website? Thanks
Hi there!
The first video is SO killer!! I diged it A LOT. I’ve also added this band to myspace. The tone he has there is a dream come true to every home metal guitar player and even more! I’ll definitly pick one up but there’s also the Krankstein Jr. and I’ll need some samples or video to make up my mind. Please guys, hurry up is this issue! :)
Kind regards to all.

Hi i have the Rev jr, and i have a question about how the FX loop adds extra gain/volume.
i was wandering how it does this, is the Fx loop a SS circuit, or does it have a dedicated tube for the extra gain/volume?
im just a little curious really, because as i understand it, volume/gain is achieved through the use of the tubes right? if so, that would mean the that when the FX loop is active it uses an extra tube?
or am i completely wrong.
many thanks james
Nope you’re right James, the Rev Jr. has an active tube driven effects loop that dedicates a tube to it where it will give you extra gain boost if activated with nothing int he loop…
hey guys i have one of the original rev jrs my owners manual/sheet sais 25 watts did you change/lower? on the new ones i think i got mine in 2007?
also can i add a 4×12 cab to the line out in the back? to make a 3/4 stack with 2 single cabs and a 4×12 ? can the amp push that many speakers? i think it would look bitchen in chrome the krank rev jr 3/4 stack? 6 speakers eminence legend v 12? thanx Ripper
Hey man basically the amp sits in between 20 and 25 watts and the original owner’s manual was written at 25 but we’ve always considered them to be 20… Now as far as adding a 4×12 the amp will push one pretty well but there’s not enough power there to push a 4×12 and the two 1×12 cabs, not to mention you would get into a ohms mismatch trying to do that which would more greatly affect a smaller wattage amp like the Jr. One thing you could do is slave the preamp of the Jr. using the effects loop send into a bigger individual power amp and then push more cabs effectively that way…
ON MY STANDARD 07 REV JR IS THE LINE OUT ON THE BACK BASICALY A THIRD SPEAKER JACK?
Not quite…it is tapped from the same general place but reacts a little differently. For full tech q’s on the specifics contact the tech department here on the site!
Is the line out located before or after the effects loop in the circuit?
I’ve got the 20w, but I want a bit more omph! How hard (for a techie) would it be to turn my 20w into a 50w version?
Hey Scott basically you would need the 50W transformer set from us which could be installed fairly easily I’d think by an amp tech…
Hi, I’m looking at buying one of these, I’m wondering,
are there any close up photos of the front and back so I can have
a closer look at everything? Also, are these self biasing?
Could I put an EL34, KT88 or 6L6GC in?
Thanks.
They are self biasing amps and the biggest tube you can put in them safely is a 5881 as the transformers are made junior size as well. As for close up photos I’ll see if we can e-mail one to you.
My amp ( rev jr.) makes an audible hum when it’s on. Is this normal?
That’s not typical…does it do it when there’s no guitar cord plugged into the amp while you have it on? If not then it’s something else in your chain before the amp, if so then yes there’s an issueand you should contact tech@krankamps.com…
Hi, I’ve had my Rev. Jr. for a few weeks, and I’m in need of a retube (as is it second hand)
I heard KT-66′s are great for the tone I want and saw that they are direct replacements for 5881′s
as long as they fit. Is this the case?
I’m also wondering about replacing the output transformer with a 50 watter.
Would a Hammond 1750 (Replacement for JTM-45, JCM-800 and similar ones) do it?
It has very similar specs to the Krank ones, but it would be easier for me to get hold of.
You can put KT66s in as long you can find a brand that fits (some are too fat like a Tungstall or too tall). And as far as replacing the output transformer I wouldn’t recommend it just as you would be jumping thru hoops to make that Hammond fit and at the same time not mangle the chassis trying to mount it. If you want you can get hold of the tech dept and source out a 50W Jr transformer…
Hello, I was wondering if jumpering the FX loop would do anything on the Standard Rev Jr? I’ve heard you’re supposed to for the gain boost on the pro, but I know this ones loop is different.
Actually the standard’s loop is pretty much the same as the Pro versions being a tube driven one that will indeed boost the gain. In truth the loop is already jumpered internally when you use it with nothing in the loop itself…
Thanks for the reply man. I just bought the full stack last week and couldn’t be happier with it.
If anyone out there is debating getting this amp, just do it. It’s phenomenal and you wont regret it.
the description says three 12AX7′ but i can only see 2 of them, there is one hidden inside the 2″ metal closed rack?
Yes there is!
I was wondering how much noise is normal on the rev jr with nothing plugged into it. on the krank channel you can notice noise with the boost on around 1/4 volume and it gets worse from there. With a guitar plugged in it’s pretty bad.
Can you possibly give me the tube layout for the Krank Rev Jr. Standard? Specifically, which tube is the “Kleen” preamp tube and which one is the gain tube and/or effects loop tube. I’m assuming that the one next to the power tubes is a phase inverter, but I’m a little perplexed. Maybe one of the three preamp tubes has two functions? thanks.
Give our tech a shout at tech@krankamps.com and he can line you out!
