The newest in the amplifier line is the hybrid Rev SST. A new concept in making hybrid tube/solid state amps, the Rev SST is comprised of an all tube high gain preamp and Class D mosfet power amp section (the same type of power used in high end car stereo amps). This beast produces an ultra powerful, clean, and very loud 200W of useable power at 4 ohms with great tones at a more affordable price. This footswitchable two channel head has the same killer features Kranks are known for, with the Krank channel containing two master volumes, 3-band eq, sweep and gain and the Kleen featuring a volume and 3-band eq. Players who love that bouncy, compressed feel will find the Rev SST just downright fun to play while both the high gain and clean sounds remain clear and distinct. Additional features include switch mode power supply for worldwide use, active effects loop and manual channel selector.
- Two channel, footswitchable 200W head
- Preamp three 12AX7 tubes, power section 400W Class D power module
- Separate volume and 3 band eq sections per channel
- Footswitchable Master 1 and Master 2 controls, gain, sweep control on Krank channel
- Active effects loop, ohm selector, worldwide voltage use, footswitch included

At the age of 8, I inherited a bass from my uncle, who died tragically in a motorcycle accident in San Leandro, CA.....
I’m a recording musician with a home studio, and I’m considering this amp. If I were to direct-input to a computer, would I use the line out or speaker outputs? And would the cabinet still have to be connected to avoid burning up?
Hey Kennie while you wouldn’t have to worry about burning it up due to the fact it’s a digital power section it just wouldn’t sound good going out of the line out. We don’t set up any of our guitar amps with line out cab modeling, if you had a cab modeling plugin/hardware maybe that would work. The SST sounds great but thru a cab would be the best bet for tone. Truthfully if you’re doing nothing but home recording I’d seriously consider converting a closet or something into a soundproof recording room for guitars. Even the best modeling doesn’t sound as good as a good tube amp miked up if sound quality is something you’re striving for… At that point too I’d recommend the Rev Jr. Pro as well as it’s affordable and sounds awesome…
I tend to avoid mic’ing up guitars because there’s a lot more EQ work to be done. Plus I have neighbour issues.
So even using the speaker outputs wouldn’t sound great either?
If so, do any of your cabs feature a line out or any other outputs that could be converted into digital audio?
Thanks for your help so far.
I understand your issues bud. Yeah without having some type of cab emulation the speaker out won’t sound good. And no our cabs don’t have anything that can be converted to digital and sound good in any way. Truthfully I don’t know of any cabs that do anything like that… So…There are some cool plugins that do cab emulation and that’s something to consider, then you can still have a “real amp” sound versus having to have that totally emulated sound that isn’t as wide, etc. It’s hard to get what you want without miking but I get where you’re coming from…
Thanks for the help mate. I’m rather disappointed, this amp is beast!
you can use a power soak
Sure you could run it into one…
i really wanna sell mi genz benz n buy a krank after that day we spent n the krank shop!!!i think this is the most affordable for me right now..
I guarantee you will love the head!
Hey dudes,
Sorry for another is this amp good question! But I am tossing up between this and a randall rh150g2 or a peavy 5150, I play mostly 80′s thrash metal. Any thoughts on tone etc.
Cheers!
The SST is actually great for thrash, has a ton of gain and because of the Class D power section it’s very tight sounding and perfect for articulating thrash metal’s complex rhythms. The Peavey will be too mushy for you at loud volumes and the Randall simply doesn’t sound nearly as clear…that help? lol!
Cheers Mate!
I am now awaiting my head and match cab!! Shred!
Awesome!
Does this amp have as much gain as the original Rev amp? Also does it lose it’s tone when turned up really loud like other ss amps. I know this is sst but i was just curious about the tone and gain at loud volumes.
It actually has more gain to be truthful! And no it doesn’t lose tone when it gets louder!
Alright, wicked cool =) thanks a bunch!
Hey just got this head but waiting on the cab cuz it’s on backorder. I’ve got it plugged up to an 8ohm cab but can’t figure out how to switch between the ohms on the head. Help me out?
Hey Jordan because it’s a digital power section it will essentially match to whatever ohms your cab is at, it’s only on all tube amps that ohm matching becomes important…so you’re good to go!
Awesome
i own Raven Amp’s RC412.. my guitar setup is as follows- Guitar to Chorus Fact. to Grunge Pedal to Zoom G9.2tt to amp..
Raven amps are not bad…
how would it sound if i replace the head with a SST?
The SST would be a much improved rock amp over the Raven. It’s way cleaner sounding and deff more powerful. I think you would prob be happy with the amp…
Hey, just wondering but is there a possibility of there ever being a Krankenstein SST? The Rev SST is a killer amp and i can imagine that a Stein version would be even sweeter.
There are possibilities of this happening!
I’m trying to decide which amp to buy. Looking for an amp to play tech/djenty stuff (periphery, born of osiris etc.) so note separation and attack is really important. I want it to sound good at lower levels so I was thinking the SST or the Rev Jr Pro. Which do you think is a better amp for tech/djent metal styles? Also would it be possible to run the sst into the Jr Cab as long as you didn’t push it to hard? I really want to get a 1×12 or 2×12 instead of a full on 4×12 cab. I’m playing a Schecter BlackJack 8-string with seymour duncan active black outs if that helps. Any advice would be appreciated as I live in canada and won’t get a chance to play one before buying
I think in this instance I’d go with the Rev Jr. Pro as it has plenty of clarity and punch while at a lower volume. The SST sounds pretty awesome too but it’s a loud amp in general due to it’s powerful nature so I’m thinking the Jr. is the way to go here. And FYI you could run an SST into a 1×12 tho two of those together would be even better!
Hey, I’m in a melodic hardcore band. Would this head suit my needs i am currently looking at buying a 4×12 Orange cab, what cab would match up nicely?
This head would probably do very well for you, it’s really tight and can do the metalcore thing great. And in all honesty I would just get the matching cab that goes with it because I think you’ll get more value. The Orange cab is a great cab but it’s also $400 more expensive than the SST cab which is very comparable. I can say too if you’re thinking you really like the V30 speakers that the Orange has then consider just going with the Nineteen80 cab, it has Eminence Governor speakers which are a better sounding version of a V30. And that cab too is $300 cheaper than the Orange. Food for thought…
I WAAAAAAANNNNNNNNTTTTTTT IIIIIITTTTTTTTTTT
WAAAAAAAAAAAA WAAAAAAAAAAA I HAVE NO MILK. I STILL WANT IT.
I’VE HEARD THE DISTORTION ON THIS. NEVER HAD A TUBE AMP … AND WANT THIS TO BE MY FIRST.i’m a tube virgin…waaaaaa waaaaaa
It’s a great amp! Not fully tube but you tube virgins need to be warmed up first haha!
Hey, im lookin for a Damageplan sorta tone from this thing, do you think this head matched with the sst or krankenstein cab would deliver it? thanks
Yeah you can deff get that type of tone out of it. I’d go with the matching cab…
Hi
I bought this amp new 10months ago and have had nothing but problems.
First of all sometimes when i turn my amp on, the amp makes a whistling noise no matter how high/low my gains and masters are. The only way to make it stop is to switch it off and leave it for a few minutes then turn it back on.
It happens virtually everytime I use it. Sometimes when I switch it on it’s fine, then after about 2hrs in it starts.
Secondly it picks up local radio frequency…!!! Why is this and can you help me troubleshoot this?
I am gigging and practicing 3 times a week and it’s affecting my performances!
Thanks
Hey Nina the whistling noise when you turn it on and off could possibly be capacitors discharging which might be an issue. Also the high gain preamp tube could be a little microphonic (it’s the tube under the silver shield), an easy way to tell if it is would be to swap that tube positions with one of the other preamps tubes and see if that helps. If not there could be an issue that may require you sending it in…but try those first.
As far as the radio frequencies coming thru that is an issue that is kind of an anomaly that you can experience with high gain tube preamps. I’ve heard it first hand in a rehearsal room I’ve used and then I’d use it elsewhere, or even in the same room on another day and no radio. If it’s happening at your rehearsal pad it could be a combo of the wiring in the walls with the cables you use running into the head, all these things in the chain can act as a giant antenna so when it is combined with high gain the radio frequencies appear. As a matter of fact my band just played a gig with Tesla a couple weeks ago and their guitar player Dave Rude was experiencing the exact same thing…can happen to anyone big and small! Unfortunately there’s not a great fix for that issue other than really power conditioning the amps, that’s where a nice power conditioner helps a lot. Also if the head’s tubes are indeed a bit microphonic that can play into the situation, if you find the swapping of the tubes a I mentioned helps you’ll prob notice a decrease in the radio thing as well.
Worst case scenario nothing works please shoot an e-mail to tech@krankamps.com and we’ll try and help you out!
It would be very good if the power was increased to 200 watts @ 8 ohms, so two 16 ohm Marshall cabinets could be used in parallel for a full 200 watts output.
With digital power sections the need for ohm matching isn’t pertinent so if you wanted to run two 16 ohm Marshall cabs you could and it would be at 8 ohms…and you will be golden!
I’ve try MF350 which is a hybrid amp and also an 90′s of American hi-gain (I won’t tell u what brand could that be, not KRANK of course), I have use em both to record my demos. Each fer rhythm sections, I took the MF350 to get more punch of the solid state’s low resonance, and an American hi-gain fer the tone and warmth of the tubes character. F**k me! Now I realize there’s only one deadly amp I should get and only KRANK SST hybrid will fulfill what I need the most. KRANK is a must \m/
It does kick ass Andy, let us know if you have any trouble finding one!
Is chinese or korean?
Thanks
US made!
Is there a combo in the making yet?? Either a 1X12 or 2X12??
We have a 2×12 combo already (you can look it up on our website) and a 1×12 is scheduled to come out soon!
I’ve looked everywhere on the website. Can’t find the SST 2X12 combo anywhere. Can you post a link to it on your reply to me??
Unfortunately I misread your last comment as being a q on the Rev+, we don’t make an SST combo… :( Sorry
Not yet anyways, right? Is in the makings?
