How do you switch the ohms?
There’s a plate on the new SST cabs that allows you to switch between the two settings. The cabs first came standard in 4 ohms and can certainly be retrofitted with a switchable plate. If you have any other q’s on that feel free to contact me via the “Artist Relations” selection in the contact section of the website- Chris
I have one of these and it has no switch… Will this hurt my amp running 16 into the 4 ohm?
The initial run of the SST cabs had were wired 4 ohms but we’re getting ready to start outfitting them with switchable jack plates to due to demand… As for your q of whether or not you can run a 16 ohm head into it we’d not recommend it if the head is a full tube amp as with a mismatched ohm load the head will a) not run as efficiently, and b) could potentially cause failure. Solid state heads are ok to do so due to the nature of the power section. On all the full size Krank heads you can select from 4, 8 , or 16 ohms and can simply set the amp at the 4 ohm position, most other brands of heads have a similar set up.
Also if a 4 ohm output position isn’t available on your head for some reason you could have the cab rewired to 16 ohms. We’d recommend if you aren’t familiar with wiring cabs up that you take it into a local tech to do so….
Played the SST with my band yesterday. Had the master 1 volume set 1.5 and blew the entire place apart. Not to metion how brutal it was. Rumbling the ground and shit. Whoo!!! That fucker is bad ass
What is the power handling/watt capability on this cabinet.
The SST cab is rated at 600W. Because we use premium 13-ply baltic birch instead of the typical plywood or pressboard materials the cab is extremely tight and handles any head really well…
hey i was just wondering…i purchased an SST cabinet off of craigslist thinking it was the Rev cab because thats what the guy had it as. can you tell me the major differences of both of these and positives and negatives of both please.
Basically the SST cab is the same size and same speakers but we user 13-ply baltic birch instead of the solid wood poplar. Also the SST cab you bought is most likely at 4 ohms versus the Rev cab being 16 ohms as that’s the match for the SST head. The differences will be the SST version is a darker sounding cab by nature of the baltic birch. Both will have great bottom end and be very tight. The poplar version is brighter and has a bit more upper tone but both are great cabs. BTW if you don’t want your SST cab at 4 ohms it’s very easy to rewire it to 16 ohms and you can find diagrams on how to do it at various sites online…
The Rev SST is an awesome cabinet! Run mine with a 6505 and I couldn’t be happier! Agressive tone, great low end, … overall round tone, but never hurting your ears!
Where can I find a tutorial on rewiring the rev sst cab to 16 ohms?
Will e-mail a diagram to you!
